Summertime in New England is filled with sunsoaked moments that coalesce into memories, and outdoor excursions that allow for spending extra time with friends and family. At Enroot, we have enjoyed recharging our batteries after the delightful student end of the year celebrations in May, savoring every student accomplishment.
As we near the end of August, we have also been hard at work preparing for the beginning of the next academic year. We are so excited to announce Enroot’s return to full in-person programming starting this fall. Most importantly, we can’t wait to connect with all of the new and returning students and volunteers who are joining us for the upcoming school year. In a year full of transitions, it has been bittersweet saying farewell to some at Enroot, while also applauding team members entering new phases of their career with us.
This includes my own transition as permanent Executive Director of Enroot, and I’m thrilled to share with you my vision for our future! Below is a link to my full message to all of you, our amazing community.
The One by One Project in Action:
Community Stories Series
Rose Francois and Bralyn Beathea speak with
The One by One Project
The One by One Project is an extraordinary organization that supports those who are underserved in Greater Boston through partnerships with local non-profits. When a non-profit partner learns of an urgent need that falls outside their capacity, The One by One Project quickly steps in, filling a need that would otherwise become a barrier to an individual's success or well-being.
Enroot is humbled to partner with the One by One Project because we recognize that immigrant students often face various academic and personal roadblocks in their lives, often due to a lack of access to resources afforded to their peers. Rose Francois, Enroot’s Executive Director, and Bralyn Beathea, Director of College Success and Alumni Engagement, sat down to discuss the importance of One by One’s support that provides a holistic safety net for Enroot program students. A community partner such as the One by One Project stepping up to support immediate needs can make a huge difference in the lives of students trying to excel in their academic, career, and personal lives. We are so grateful for this wonderful partnership. Through One by One’s support, students have received laptops needed for school and college education and transportation support getting students and families to work, school, or medical appointments. These supports may seem small but have a huge impact on the access students and families receive to achieve their long-term goals.
A very special thanks to One by One’s Pam Rosenbergfor these opportunities and Anne Bostfor capturing the conversations.
Enroot’s End of the Year Celebration for our College Success program students was a fantastic wrap-up of a very challenging school year. The event was held at 730 Tavern, in Cambridge, on June 15th and everyone was so excited to reconnect. It was a lively gathering with the College Success team members, Bralyn Beathea and Ellie Villa-Wilson, honoring the youth’s hard work and unending enthusiasm. We look forward to what is next for these future leaders.
Cambridge Rindge & Latin and Somerville High School’s
End of Year Celebration
High school students from Enroot’s Cambridge and Somerville programs came together to celebrate the school year’s end at Danehy Park on Thursday, May 26th. It was a beautiful day for Enroot students, staff team, and mentors to treat themselves to pizza and ice cream, engage in a friendly but fierce soccer game, and just have fun! It’s been another year with the unique struggles of the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, yet with all of the obstacles, students had great success with their academic year and building relationships with their mentors. We were delighted to see the smiles and community displayed by everyone.
See you in September!

On July 7th, Enroot staff were thrilled to enjoy a private tour of Harvard’s Hip Hop Archives, housed in its Hutchins Center. At Enroot, we are committed to constantly advancing Diversity, Belonging, Inclusion, and Equity in all areas of our community and this visit was no exception.
The breadth and depth to the archives, which are a collection of art, photographs, music, film, and other materials, celebrate hip hop’s influence on Black culture, plus its worldwide impacts. Extra special thanks to Dominique Bocanegra, the Archive’s program manager, for their hospitality.
Thank You Debbie Klein,

The entire Enroot team sends a heartfelt thank you to Debbie Klein, an iconic Enroot pioneer and passionate supporter. After over 9 years, Debbie departed as Enroot's Senior Cambridge Program Associate at the end of May. Thankfully, Debbie won’t be too far away as she’ll be an Enroot mentor, beginning this fall. Thank you for everything you’ve contributed to this organization during your tenure. We love you Debbie!
Social Venture Partners Boston Inaugural Executive Director Circle
In June, Enroot’s Executive Director Rose Francois was privileged to be part of the Social Venture Partners Boston inaugural Executive Director Circle! Rose met with ED's in SVP’s metro Boston network to discuss issues their organizations are tackling, as well as mingle and socialize on a gorgeous day. This ED Circle gathering will be a regular event and Enroot is excited to continue to be a part of this great network.
Enroot’s Vania Loredo promoted to
Senior Director of Program
We are thrilled to announce that Vania Loredo, Enroot’s Director of Volunteer and Community Engagement, has been promoted to Senior Director of Program! Since she joined us two years ago, Vania has worked tirelessly to recruit and grow the number of mentors working with our students, modernize and simplify the systems through which we capture data, and increase our DBIE offerings to our volunteer community. As an immigrant herself, Vania's connection with Enroot is personal. She has constantly strived to provide the best resources for mentors to create a meaningful connection with students. She’s an excellent addition to our leadership team, and we can’t wait to see her in this role!
